Data Science @ Bristol is united by a research interest in the theoretical underpinnings — statistical and algorithmic — of data science and big data analytics. Its members have a predominantly theoretical interest, combined with applied interests in diverse data-intensive research fields ranging from remote sensing, music informatics, social media analytics, web mining, bioinformatics, computer vision, personalised healthcare, and more. Our unique approach is to derive inspiration for foundational research from actual applications in these areas, to subsequently deploy these research results for the benefit of these as well as other application areas.
